WHITECOTTON--Help! I just got back from the local LDS library where I came across a book about Jackson Co. Ala. In this book, it mentions my ancestor, PETE WHITECOTTON, who <the book says> married EMMA ERWIN, daughter of WILEY ERWIN (she was a child from his first marriage). It goes on to say that WILEY ERWIN later married again to EMMA WHITECOTTON, sister to PETE WHITECOTTON. This would make Pete's step-mother-in-law, his sister. My problem is that in all of the census info and family info that I have accumulate on the parents of PETE WHITECOTTON, I have never ran across mention of a sister named EMMA. I do have that Pete's wife was named EMILY, and we know for a fact that he died young, so I guess it is possible that WILEY married PETE'S widow. This family was rather infamous in Jackson Co. and there is quite a bit of info on them available. Anyone who could shed some light on this mystery would have my undying gratitude.. For more information, contact Karla Lang at

WIMBERLY, WILSON--Ezekiel W. WIMBERLY and wife Martha Eliza WILSON Wimberly both died in Washington Co., AL; he on 31 Au 1844 and she on 16 Sep 1844. I'd like to find out more information about them. For more information, contact Leah W. Talbot at or at 591 Brookside Drive Longmont, CO 80501.

WIMBERLY--I'm looking for information on William WIMBERLY. What is known: He appears in the 1850 and 1870 census for Choctaw Co and is married to Susan ?. Possibly lived in Washington CO prior to this time. He also appears on the Personnal Property Tax list for 1849 for Choctaw County. He was born abt 1816 to 1819 in South Carolina , but I can't find any info to verify this other than census records after 1850. We believe he died in 1884 and is buried in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Melvin in Choctaw Co. His wife Susan was born in Alabama abt 1828 and may have had the initials S H I, but can't verify this either. Most likely they got married in Ala so if you know who she was or know where any marriage records are it would be appreciated. They had 10 children including my great grandfater, William Benjamin Wimberly who I have had good luck tracing. However we have had no luck in tracing any of the brothers and sisters (Green B., Ira B., Susan, Martha, Eli, Prilla, Abbey, Linus and Amanda). They were all born in Alabama. I cannot locate the family in the 1860 or 1880 census, but it is most likely they were in Ala in both instances, since all the children were born there between 1845 and 1868. Any help you can give me in tracking these folks including sources for census, marriage, death, wills, deeds, or whatever would be appreciated. For more information, contact Larry Wimberly at
