Notes About the
Archibald Stevens Alexander Library
The Alexander Library web site states,
"The genealogical holdings provide one of the
state's richest sources of information on New Jersey
family history. The bulk of the records have been
deposited by the Genealogical Society of New Jersey and
the New Jersey State Society of the Daughters of the
American Revolution. The Rutgers genealogical collection
is also significant. Most frequently used are cemetery
inscriptions, family Bible records and extensive notes
and compilations by professional genealogists, many of
whom have spent a lifetime studying the state's early
families, both prominent and obscure."
The researcher may view a less detailed description of
the genealogical materials available in the Alexander
Library at the Special Collections site below, but there
is no data online, and materials do not leave the library.
Researchers can post general reference questions by e-mail.
One will have to personally visit the library, have a
friend go, or hire a researcher to access these materials
in a meaningful way.

Because the Special
Collections' online offering suffers from its parvitude,
a brief outline is provided here for some of the holdings.
