Elliott, Recorder Whereas;- William Elliott of the Township of Marlborough in the County of Stark and state of Ohio, son of Benjamin Elliott and Sarah his wife, and Maria Hagaman, daughter of Michael Hagaman and Sarah his wife, of the County and State aforesaid, having declared their intentions of marriage with each other, before a monthly meeting of the religious society of Friends, held at Marlborough; and having consent of parents, their said proposals of marriage were allowed by the meeting. These are to certify whom it may concern; that for the full accomplishment of their said intentions, this third day of the fourth month, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five; they, the said William Elliott and Maria Hagaman appeared in a public meeting of the said people held at Marlborough aforesaid; and the said William Elliott taking the said Maria Hagaman by the hand, declared, that he took her, the said Maria Hagaman to be his wife, promising with Divine assistance to be unto her, a loving and faithful husband until Death should separate them and then said Maria Hagaman did in the like manner declare, that she took him, the said William Elliott to be her husband, promising with Divine assistance to be unto him a loving and faithful wife until Death should separate them. And moreover; they, the said William Elliott and Maria Hagaman (she according to the custom of marriage adopting the name of her husband) did as a further confirmation thereof, then and there; to these present, set their hands. William 5-1, 2nd, married to Arzeal Daggert, of California, Michigan." 34William Elliott, who died recently at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rose Shafer, in this city, was the last one of the older settlers of Amboy Township. He settled in Amboy Township in (Nov.) 1857, when it was mostly a wilderness, and he helped clean out the forests and make the land into valuable farms. He was nearly 89 years of age when he died and the greater part of his life had been spent in Amboy, where he was laid to rest. He leaves a brother, two sisters, four children, 27 grandchildren, 55 great-granchildren, and 16 nieces and nephews. From his obituary, source unknown. | ||||||||||||||||
