| Notes for Maria VAN VLIET |
Her baptismal name is Marytje Vandervliet. Called Maria in Snell's History of Somerset County.
GRS CD 102, ref. 714E Maria's father, John Vleet, owned land to the north of Adrian.
There is now a Vliet Road in Franklin Park, Somerset County. These Dutch people were probably quite religious and clearly married within the Church. So many of them intermarried in this area that there was a road called "Cousin's Lane" that went between the Somerset communities. The name is preserved, as a large road in Franklin Park is now called "Cozzins Lane", the origin of which I am sure many residents have forgotten. Her name was also spelled Marytje Vander Vliet. She used name Mary. "Marietje" is Mary in Dutch102 |
