The first home of Martin Hackett, Jr. is believed to have b een near that of the Rev. John Waller, between Scotch Cros s and Cambridge. Hackett, however, spent much of his adul t life in Greenwood, locating here about 1831. His home, now 138 Hackett Street, is probably the oldest dw elling in the city. According to C. M. Calhoun who collect ed information in the 1890's about early Greenwood, the hou se was built before 1824 at Cambridge, and Hackett had it m oved to the villiage. In 1816 Martin Hackett Jr., married Matilda Waller, daughte r of Benjamin Waller: five children, but only one married. Second wife of Martin Hackett, Jr. was Adeline W. Survived by his t wo daughters & their husbands who they had married after h e died & his widow who was now the wife of Joseph Waddell , His two daughters died before the completion of the settl ement of the estate by the court of appeals. The 4 slaves were the property of Mrs. Waddell's father, Th omas Hackett of Va who was a lunatic, without intermissio n from some time antecedent to 1817, to his death which di d not occur until 2 or more years after the testator Redd w ho removed with his wife from Va. in 1817 & brought 2 of th e 4 slaves with him delivered to him on loan by a son of Th omas Hackett.
