This Indenture made this twenty third day of April in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven Between Thomas Woolfolk of the County of Orange of the one part and Thomas Woolfolk Junr and Patsy, John, Nancy, Fanney and Fendall Woolfolk of the said County sons and daughters to the said Thomas Woolfolk.  That for and in consideration of a tender love and affection I bear towards my sons and daughters I have hereby giving them the followint negroes namely

 

To Thomas Woolfolk one negro man named Lue, one negro woman named Danner one negro girl named Susey & one named Betty.

 

To Patsy Woolfolk the following negroes one negro named [ blurred text] one named lidey a girl and one named Milley and one negro named Josh

 

and the following negroes To John, Nancy, Fanney and Fendell Woolfolk, namely Tom, a man, Grass (Grace?) a woman, Bess a woman, Vilett a woman, Molley a woman, Dyner a woman, Isaac a boy and West a boy, Rachell a girl, Judy a girl, Mymae a girl, and Grass (Grace?) a girl. They and there Increase to them and their heirs forever nevertheless suggick (sic) to the after written clause that the said Thomas Woolfolk is to keep the said Negroes in possession til the above named children shall come of age or marry and that in case of the aforesaid children shall marry contrary to the will of the said Thomas Woolfolk consent then and in that case the said Negroes is to remain in the said Thomas Woolfolks possession untill his death and as there is a joint gift between the last four children when any one of them comes of age or marrys with the consent of the said Thomas Woolfolk then and in that case the Negoes is to be put in lots by two honest men and numbered and drawn for his choyest (sic) and that in case any one of my children shall die without lawrful issue of their bodys then and in that case there part of the aforesaid negroes to be equally divided at the said Thomas Woolfolks death between the rest of the within mentioned children that shall be living as witness my hand and seal the day and year within written.

At a court held for Orange County on Monday the –d of April 1787. This deed of gift from Thomas Woolfolk to Thos. Patsy, John , Nancy, Fanny and Fendell Woolfolk, his children, was proved by the oath of Thos. Barnett witness thereto and odered to be recorded.
