This Indenture made this 22 of Dec’r 1794 Between Thomas Woolfolk Senr of the one part in the County of Orange and Thomas Woolfolk, Junr of said County, James Allen in Fredericksburg in the county of Spotsylvania, Nancy Woolfolk in Orange Co & Reuben Cowherd of the last mentioned county therefore and in consideration of a tender love I bear towards the above mentioned children have hereby given them the following slaves namely

 

To Thomas Woolfolk Junr (my son) a man slave by the name of Lew, two negro woman by name of Bess and Hannah, three girls by name of Lucy, Betty & Tamor

 

To James Allen (my son-in-law) a negro woman by name of Daphney, three girls by name of Liddy, Mildred and Rachel, two negro boys by name of Jack and David

 

To Nancy Woolfolk (my daughter) four negro woman by name Grace Senr, Grace Junr, Mimy & Molly, two boys by name of West & George, two girls by name Mary & Sally

 

To Reuben Cowherd (my son-in-law) four boys by name of Bob, Benjamin, Aadam & Patrick, two negroes woman by name of Bilate and Dinah & one girl by name of Judah.

 

They and their heirs forever with their increase as witness my hand & seal this day and year above written.

At a court held for Orange County on Monday 22nd Dec’d 1794. This deed of gift from Thomas Woolfolk Senr to Thomas Woolfolk Junr, James Allen, junr, Nancy Woolfolk & Reuben Cowherd was acknowledged by said Woolfolk.

Know all men by these presents that we the Legatees of a deed of Gift recorded in Orange County on Monday the twenty third day of April April 1787 having this day met at Mr. Thomas Woolfolks Senrs in Orange County in order to make a division of slaves given us in said deed do agree and consent that the said deed shall be made null and void to all intents and purposes excepting as to a boy Isaac a slave which we consent shall remain in possession of said Thomas Woolfolk during said Woolfolks life and at his death to be equally divided among us or among our heirs witness our hand & seals this twenthy day of Dec’r 1794.
