Yelton and Morton Chapman were Morton and Virginia Chapman opened the Anchor Grill at 438 Pike Street in Covington, a diner open 24 hours a day. Morton was known as "Captain" because he always wore a captain's hat. A sign in the window read "We may doze, but never close." Other family members who worked in the Grill included Virginia's sister, Dorothy (Yelton) Unkraut, and Dorothy's son, Ken.^5,6 For many years, she was the chairwoman of the Covington Board of Education.⁷

     Marcus Edward Yelton was born on 12 January 1879 in Kentucky.^2,3 He was the son of Charles Thomas Yelton and Missouri Frances Smith.¹ Marcus Yelton, age 2, was listed as the son of Chas. T. Yelten, age 27, in the 1880 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.⁴ Marcus C. Yelton, age 21 was listed as a son of Misoura F. Yelton, age 49 in the 1900 Census ofAudrain County, Missouri.²

Mark M. Yelton, age 30 was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Mayes County, Oklahoma. The household also included his wife, Vion Yelton, age 24, his sons, Madiline Yelton, age 4 and Berdetiol Yelton, age 2. Viann has borne 3 children, 2 of whom are living. Madeline is listed as a boy in this census.⁵ Marcus registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 in Mayes County, Oklahoma. No occupation or employer is shown.³

Mark Yelton, age 42 was listed as the head of a household in the 1920 Census of Mayes County, Oklahoma. The family included his wife, Vian Yelton, age 34, his son, Burdette Yelton, age 11, his daughters, Madoline Yelton, age 14 and Gerldeen Yelton, age 5. The census lists the race of Vian and her children as Indian; Mark is listed as white.⁶

Marcus Edward Yelton died on 3 October 1957. He was buried at the Cole Cemetery, Pryor, Oklahoma.¹

     Nanny Belle Yelton was born on 29 December 1884 in Benton City, Audrain County, Missouri, shortly after her father's death. Both the Donald Yelton Correspondence and the 1900 Census state that Nanny was born in Dec, 1885. However, the census also states that she was 15 years old. If the Dec 1885 birthdate is correct, then she would have been 14, not 15, when the census was taken in June, 1900. Given that her father died in 1884, and pending additional research, I believe 1884 is somewhat more likely.^1,2 She was the daughter of Charles Thomas Yelton and Missouri Frances Smith.¹ Nannie B. Yelton, age 15 was listed as a daughter of Misoura F. Yelton, age 49 in the 1900 Census ofAudrain County, Missouri.²

Nanny Belle Yelton married John Wesley Keith on 5 April 1903.³
