     Martha C. Hammoc was born on 2 September 1813.

Martha C. Hammoc married John Norris, son of Thomas Gilbert Norris and Rachel Chambers, circa 1851. Martha Norris, age 46 was living in the household of John Norris, age 59, in the 1860 Census of Overton County, Tennessee.¹ Martha Norris, age 58 was living in the household of John Norris, age 69, in the 1870 Census of Putnam County, Tennessee. Martha C. Hammoc and John Norris were divorced before 1880.² Martha C. Hammoc died between 15 October 1885 and 10 November 1885 in Putnam County, Tennessee, Pending further research, I'm assuming that this is the same person, as the other Martha Norris (David's wife) was still living in 1917 when David died.³

     Marietta Johnson was born circa 1847 in Indiana.¹

Marietta Johnson married Henry H. Allen, son of Ira Allen and Nancy Yelton, on 15 August 1866 in Marshall County, Indiana.² Mary E. Allen, age 23 was living in the household of Henry Allen, age 24, in the 1870 Census of Marshall County, Indiana.¹

     William Allen was born circa 1868 in Indiana.¹ He was living in the household of Henry Allen, age 24, in the 1870 Census of Marshall County, Indiana.¹

     Lydia Yelton was born in May 1884 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.¹ Lydia Yelton, age 16 was listed as a daughter of Martha Yelton, age 47 in the 1900 Census of Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, North Carolina.³ Lidia McKinney, age 22 was listed as a daughter of Martha Elton, age 61 in the 1910 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁴ Lydia McKinney, age 33 was listed as a daughter of Martha Yelton, age 70 in the 1920 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁵

     Stokes Childers was born on 10 March 1879 in North Carolina the son of Josiah and Jane Childers.^1,2,3

Stokes Childers married Millie Yelton, daughter of John W. Yelton and Melissa Greene, in 1899.¹ Stokes Childers, age 21 was listed as a son-in-law of Malissa Yelton, age 35 in the 1900 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁴ Stokes W. Childres, age 31 was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina. The household also included his wife, Milly Childres, age 27, his sons, Jesse Childres, age 6 and Grover Childres, age 4, his daughters, Mildred Childres, age 9 and Mabel Childres, age 2, his sister-in-law,Martha Yelton, age 16. Nellie has borne 5 children, 4 of whom are living.⁵ Stokes registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.² He was listed as the head of a household in the 1920 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina. The family included his wife, Millie Childress, age 37, his sons, Jesse Childress, age 16, Grover Childress, age 13 and Josiah Childress, age 10, his daughters, Mildred Childress, age 18, Mable Childress, age 11, Malissie Childress, age 7 and Hattie Childress, age 1 month, his mother-in-law, Malissa Yelton, age 52.⁶ Stokes Childers, age 51 was listed as the head of a household in the 1930 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina. The household also included his wife, Millie Childers, age 48, his sons, Sigh Childers, age 19, John Childers, age 8 and Junor Childers, age 4, his daughter, Malissa Childers, age 17.⁷

     Jesse Childres, age 6 was listed as a son of Stokes W. Childres, age 31 in the 1910 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.² Jesse Childress, age 16 was listed as a son of Stokes Childress, age 40 in the 1920 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.³

     Grover William Childers was born on 19 May 1906 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.^1,2 He was listed as a son of Stokes W. Childres, age 31 in the 1910 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.² Grover Childress, age 13 was listed as a son of Stokes Childress, age 40 in the 1920 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.³ At the time of his death, Grover William Childers resided at in Greenville, South Carolina.⁴ He died in December 1983.⁴

     Mabel Childres, age 2 was listed as a daughter of Stokes W. Childres, age 31 in the 1910 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.² Mable Childress, age 11 was listed as a daughter of Stokes Childress, age 40 in the 1920 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.³

     Josiah Childress, age 10 was listed as a son of Stokes Childress, age 40 in the 1920 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.² Sigh Childers, age 19 was listed as a son of Stokes Childers, age 51 in the 1930 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.³

     Hattie Gouge was born in August 1879 in North Carolina the daughter of Wiley Gouge and Nancy Garland.^1,2

Hattie Gouge married William Yelton, son of Leonard J. Yelton and Mary Hutchins, on 8 February 1898 in Mitchell County, North Carolina. Hattie Gouge died on 16 May 1957 North Carolina.^2,3 She was buried at Gouge Cemetery, Mitchell County, North Carolina, on 18 May 1957.²

     Molly Yelton was born in August 1898 in North Carolina.²

     Cornelius Yelton was born on 8 April 1900 in Mitchell County, North Carolina, The family appears in the 1900 Census for Rutherford Co, NC, when Cornelius is one month old. I suspect that he was born in Rutherford County, not Mitchell County.^1,3,4,5 He died in January 1975 in Tennessee.³

     Edith Decker was born circa 1809 in Iredell County, North Carolina.^2,1

Edith Decker married William James Yelton, son of Charles Henson Yelton and Susannah Rogers, circa 1825.³ Edy Yelton is probably included in the 1830 Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina in the household of her husband, William R. Yelton.⁴ Edy Yelton appeared as the head of a household in the 1840 Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina. The household consisted of 1 female 30-40, 1 female 15-20, 1 male 5-10, 2 females under 10. It is likely that these individuals were, in addition to Edy, her son, James A. Yelton, her daughters, Caroline Yelton, Nancy Yelton and Mary Yelton.⁵ E. C. Yelton, age 41, was listed as the head of a household in the 1850 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina. Also living in the household were Chas Yelton, age 21, Caoline Yelton, age 14 and Nancy Yelton, age 12. E. reported owning no real estate.⁶ She was living in the household of Nancy Lanning, age 32, in the 1870 Census of Madison County, North Carolina.⁷ E. D. Yelton, age 73, was listed as the mother of Caroline Redman, age 46, in the 1880 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁸ Edith Decker died in 1888 in Henderson County, North Carolina.⁹ She was buried in M. E. Church South Cemetery, Mills River, Henderson County, North Carolina.⁹

     Charles Yelton was born circa 1829 in North Carolina.¹ He is probably included in the household of William R. Yelton in the 1830 Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina.³ Chas Yelton, age 21 was living in the household of E. C. Yelton, age 41, in the 1850 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁴

Charles Yelton married Margaret Brooks on 15 July 1856 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. The marriage was performed by P. S. Kistler, Justice of the Peace. The witness was J. A. Huss, Clerk. The name of the bondsman is not stated.

The identification of this Charles Yelton as the husband of Margaret Brooks is somewhat speculative at this point, and is based on the marriage of James Yelton (Charles' brother) in the same county the following year and the appearance of Margaret with Charles in the 1860 Census for Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁵ Charles Yelton, age 32 was listed as the head of a household in the 1860 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina. Also living in the household was Margaret Yelton, age 20. Charles reported owning no real estate, but had personal property worth $50.⁶

Charly Yelton, age 42 was listed as the head of a household in the 1870 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina. Charly reported owning no real estate, but had personal property worth $100. Charles appears in a household immediately adjacent to his sister Mary (Yelton) Lanning, with an 18 year old male, Mack Henderson. His wife Margaret and son Thomas are in a separate household on a different page.⁷

Charles Yelton married Martha Elizabeth Lewis on 24 August 1876 in Madison County, North Carolina.^8,9 Charly Yellton, age 56 was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Marshall, Madison County, North Carolina. The family included his wife, Maratha Yellton, age 35. No occupation is stated for Charles. The household also includes a 22 year old domestic servant, Salley Roads and her two children, Cary (female, age 3) and Thomas (male, age one month, b. Apr 1880).¹⁰ In 1900 Charles Yelton was a farmer.⁸ He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1900 Census of Marshall, Madison County, North Carolina. Other family members included his wife, Marth E. Yelton, age 60. The household also includes Sarah M.Seagle, age 14, identified as Charles' niece.¹¹

     Caroline Yelton was born in May 1834 in North Carolina.^1,3 She is probably included in the household of Edy Yelton in the 1840 Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina.⁴ Caoline Yelton, age 14 was living in the household of E. C. Yelton, age 41, in the 1850 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁵

Caroline Yelton married Leander Redman on 1 April 1852 in Buncombe County, North Carolina.^6,7 Caroline Redman, age 26 was living in the household of Leander Redman, age 31, in the 1860 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁶ Caroline Redmon, age 34 appeared as the head of a household in the 1870 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina. Also living in the household were Mary A. Redmon, age 17, David M. Redmon, age 16, Samuel Redmon, age 13 and John D. Redmon, age 8. Caroline reported owning real estate worth $300 and personal property worth $130.⁸ She was listed as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina. The family included her sons, Samuel M. Redman, age 18 and John D. Redman, age 16, her daughter, L. A. Redman, age 20, her mother, E. D. Yelton, age 73.⁹ In the 1900 Census of Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina, Caroline Redman, age 66 was listed as the head of a household. Other family members included her son, John Redman, age 38, her grandson, Mack Redman, age 16 and Lawrence N. Redman, age 13, her granddaughter, Mattie L. E. Redman, age 18. Caroline has borne 5 children, 4 of whom are living.³

     Nancy Yelton was born circa 1838 in North Carolina. She is probably included in the household of Edy Yelton in the 1840 Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina.³ Nancy Yelton, age 12 was living in the household of E. C. Yelton, age 41, in the 1850 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁴

Nancy Yelton married Elliott Riley Lanning on 29 December 1856 in Buncombe County, North Carolina.^5,6 Nancy Lanning, age 21 was living in the household of E. R. Lanning, age 27, in the 1860 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina.⁷ Nancy Lanning, age 32 was listed as the head of a household in the 1870 Census of Madison County, North Carolina. Also living in the household were Angeline Lanning, age 11, James Lanning, age 10 and Eda Yelton, age 64. Nancy reported owning no real estate and no personal property.⁸ She was listed as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina. The family included her son, Marion Lanning, age 20, her daughters, Candus Lanning, age 21 and Lillie Lanning, age 7.⁹

     John F. Moorhead was born circa 1816 in North Carolina.¹

John F. Moorhead married Mary Yelton, daughter of John Yelton and Polly Deck, on 22 January 1840 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The census entries for 1850 and 1860 give her name as Martha, so I'm not sure I've got the right person here.²

     John Yelton was born in March 1882 in North Carolina.² Jesse Yelton, age 18 was listed as a son of Martha Yelton, age 47 in the 1900 Census of Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁴

John Yelton married Hattie Grindstaff on 24 December 1903.^5,6

John Yelton married Hattie Greene, daughter of Tom Greene and Nancy Sparks, on 5 August 1905 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁷ John Yelton, age 28 was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, North Carolina. The household also included his wife, Hattie Yelton, age 23, his sons, Cide Yelton, age 3 and Arnold Yelton, age 1 year and 9 months, his daughter, Cora Yelton, age 3 months.⁸ John Yelton, age 46 was listed as the head of a household in the 1930 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina. The household also included his wife, Hattie Yelton, age 38, his sons, Floyd Yelton, age 16, Jessie Yelton, age 13, James Yelton, age 10, London Yelton, age 8 and Vestal Yelton, age 6, his daughters, Cora Yelton, age 18, Dona Yelton, age 14, Joyce Yelton, age 13, Mary Yelton, age 3 and Martha Yelton, age 3. The census taker switched the genders of Joyce and Jessie, the 13 year old twins.⁹ John survived the death of his wife, Hattie Greene, on 25 February 1950.^10,5,11

John Yelton married Edna Briggs circa 1950.^5,12 John Yelton died on 9 August 1965 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.^5,11,13

     Hattie Greene was born on 19 April 1884 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.^2,3

Hattie Greene married John Yelton, son of (?) Hutchins? and Martha Yelton, on 5 August 1905 North Carolina.⁴ Hattie Yelton, age 23 was listed as the wife of John Yelton, age 28 in the 1910 Census of Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁵ Hattie Yelton, age 38 was listed as the wife of John Yelton, age 46 in the 1930 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.⁶ Hattie Greene died on 25 February 1950 North Carolina at age 65. She was survived by her husband, John Yelton.^2,7,3 Hattie Greene was buried in the Phillips Cemetery, Mitchell County, North Carolina, on 26 February 1950.^3,2

     Floyd Yelton was born on 7 July 1912 in Fork Mtn, Mitchell County, North Carolina.^1,2 He was listed as a son of John Yelton, age 46 in the 1930 Census of Mitchell County, North Carolina.³

Floyd Yelton married Sarah Lewis.⁴ Floyd Yelton died in March 1987 in Tennessee.²

     Arnold Yelton was born on 10 June 1909 in Bakersville, Mitchell County, North Carolina.^1,2,3 He was listed as a son of John Yelton, age 28 in the 1910 Census of Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, North Carolina.²

Arnold Yelton married Sallie Buchanan on 16 March 1929 in Carter County, Tennessee.^4,5 Arnold Yelton died on 24 April 1987 in Tennessee.^6,7

     Clyde Yelton was born circa 1907 in North Carolina.¹ He was listed as a son of John Yelton, age 28 in the 1910 Census of Fork Mountain, Mitchell County, North Carolina.¹

The household also included his wife, Olamae Yelton, age 16, his son, Hubert Yelton, age 2 monts.⁴ Clyde Yelton died on 26 November 1969 in Mitchell County, North Carolina.^5,2 He was buried in Greene Cemetery, Mitchell County, North Carolina, on 28 November 1969.²
