James Yelton

     James Yelton was born before 1722. 1 On 9 September 1743 James witnessed the will of John Wheeler. in Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia. Other witnesses were John Payton and Richard Rogers.2

James Yelton married Isabel Hinson, daughter of Edmund Hinson and Elizabeth (?), on 13 November 1743 in Stafford County, Virginia.3 In 1744 James Yelton was a tailor, according to accounts presented in court by Peter Hedgman (executor of the estate of William Brent). This William Brent had died in 1742, leaving a nine year old son, also named William.4 In 1745 and 1746, he was again mentioned in accounts of William Brent's estate, for making a suit of clothes presumably for the young heir.5 In 1748 or 1749, James received further sums from the estate of Capt. William Brent for his services as a tailor.6 On 13 November 1759 James witnessed a deed between William George and William King in Stafford County, Virginia. Other witnesses were William Berryman and Charles Morgan, Jr.7 24 May 1779, James signed a petition to the House of Delegates requesting that the county seat of Stafford County be placed near the center of the county.8

James Yelton died in 1783 in Stafford County, Virginia.9 He died without leaving a will. James Yelton Jr. was named administrator of his estate in 1783 in Stafford County, Virginia.9 James Yelton prepared an inventory of the estate of James Yelton.
