     Martha D. Shipp was born on 21 September 1831 in Howard County, Missouri, the daughter of Howard Shipp & Zilpah Ballew.^1,2

Martha D. Shipp married William Yelton III, son of William Yelton Jr. and Elizabeth (?), on 13 August 1850 in Howard County, Missouri.^3,4 Martha Yelton was living in the household of William L. Yelton, age 41, in the 1860 Census of Howard County, Missouri.⁵ Martha Yelton, age 37 was living in the household of William Yelton, age 55, in the 1870 Census of Howard County, Missouri.⁶ Martha Yelton, age 41 was listed as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Howard County, Missouri. The family included her sons, William Yelton, age 19 and Hiram E. Yelton, age 16. Also living in the household is Sam Harris, a 39 year old laborer identified as a boarder. Quite possibly Sam is the explanation for Martha's understatement of her age by several years. Martha S. Yelton, age 79 was listed as the mother of William H. Yelton, age 49 in the 1910 Census of Glasgow, Howard County, Missouri.⁷ Martha D. Shipp died on 24 December 1915 in Triplett, Chariton County, Missouri.² She was buried in Glasgow, Missouri, on 26 December 1915.²

     Zilpah Yelton was born circa 1854 in Missouri.² She was the daughter of William Yelton III and Martha D. Shipp.¹ Zilpha Yelton, age 6 was living in the household of William L. Yelton, age 41, in the 1860 Census of Howard County, Missouri.³ Lillie Yelton, age 14 was living in the household of William Yelton, age 55, in the 1870 Census of Howard County, Missouri.⁴

Zilpah Yelton married John Thomas Gaines on 10 February 1874 in Chariton County, Missouri.^5,6 Lilian Gains, age 26, was listed as the wife of John Gains, age 30, in the 1880 Census of Benton County, Arkansas.⁷

     William Yelton was born on 18 August 1860 in Howard County, Missouri.² He was the son of William Yelton III and Martha D. Shipp.^1,2 An unnamed male infant Yelton, whose age is not stated was living in the household of William L. Yelton, age 41, in the 1860 Census of Howard County, Missouri.³ William Yelton was living in the household of William Yelton, age 55, in the 1870 Census of Howard County, Missouri.⁴ William Yelton, age 19 was listed as a son of Martha Yelton, age 41, in the 1880 Census of Howard County, Missouri. William H. Yelton, age 49 was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Glasgow, Howard County, Missouri. The household also included, his mother, Martha S. Yelton, age 79. Martha has borne five children, four of whom are living.⁵ William Yelton never married.² He died on 8 October 1930 in Howard County, Missouri.² He was buried in Richland Cemetery on 9 October 1930.²

Yelton, age 16 was listed as a son of Martha Yelton, age 41, in the 1880 Census of Howard County, Missouri.

     Caleb Thomas was born on 12 January 1843 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, the son of Lorenzo D. Thomas and Rebecca Bobbitt.¹

Caleb reported owning real estate worth $1000 and personal property worth $200.² He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Howard County, Missouri. The family included his wife, Mary E. Thomas, age 28, his son, Willie Thomas, age 10, his daughters, Mattie L. Thomas, age 11, Mary Thomas, age 7 and Allie Thomas, age 1.³

     Alice H. Thomas was born on 5 February 1879 in Howard County, Missouri.^2,3 She was the daughter of Caleb Thomas and Mary E. Yelton.¹ Allie Thomas, age 1 was listed as a daughter of Caleb Thomas, age 38, in the 1880 Census of Howard County, Missouri.²

     James W. Thomas was born on 27 March 1883 Howard County, Missouri. He was the son of Caleb Thomas and Mary E. Yelton.

     Herman Yelton was born on 13 April 1884 in Missouri.^1,2,3 He was the son of Julius Tillman Yelton and Anna Ernst.¹ Herman Yelton, age 16 was listed as a son of Julius Yelton, age 49 in the 1900 Census of Martinsburg,Audrain County, Missouri.³ In 1918 Herman Yelton was an assistant cashier at the Martinsburg Bank in Martinsburg, Missouri.² Herman registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 in Mexico, Missouri. He named Annie Yelton as his nearest relative.² He died on 29 July 1927 in Texas.¹

     Onie Bell Hays was born circa 1887 in Missouri the daughter of Robert and Effie Hays.^1,2

Onie Bell Hays married Philip Alexander Yelton, son of James Madison Yelton and Georgetta Records, circa 1905.^3,4 Onie B. Yelton, age 23 was listed as the wife of Philip A. Yelton, age 24 in the 1910 Census of St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri.¹ Onie survived the death of her husband, Philip Alexander Yelton on 28 October 1918.^5,6 In the 1920 Census, Onie and her four children were living with her parents, Effie and Robert Hays.² In 1930 Onie Bell Hays was a supervisor in a department store.⁷ She was listed as the head of a household in the 1930 Census of St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri. The household also included her son, Clifford Yelton, age 16, her daughter, Evelyn Yelton, age 19.⁷

Yelton, age 21 was listed as the wife of Robert S. Yelton, age 36 in the 1910 Census of Liberty Township, Phelps County, Missouri.⁴ Alma M. Yelton, age 30 was listed as the wife of Robert S.
