Huff, age 45 in the 1930 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.4

Melvin Riley Huff married Mabel Eleanor Kennedy.5 Melvin Huff was a highway patrolman. At one time, he was a sergeant at the Kentucky Highway Patrol office at Williamstown. He participated in the investigation, in 1943, of the murder of Covington Vice Mayor Carl Kiger and his 6 year old son, Jerry. Jennie Kiger, Carl's wife, was wounded. Ultimately, the police charged the couple's 16 year old daughter Joan with murder. She was found not guilty because the jury believed she was "unconscious or nearly so and that she did not comprehend the situation" and that she "believed that some member of her family was being robbed or attacked."5,2,6

Melvin Riley Huff died on 22 May 1948 at Booth Memorial Hospital, Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.2,5
