David Lane married Mary Earle, daughter of Joshua Earle and Elizabeth Yelton, on 27 April 1848 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.1,2

David Lane, age 23, was listed as the head of a household in the 1850 Census of Rutherford County, North Carolina. Also living in the household were Mary Lane, age 22 and Drusilla Lane, age 1. David reported owning no real estate.1

David Lane, age 33 was recorded as the head of a household in the 1860 Census of Rutherford County, North Carolina. Also living in the household were Mary Lane, age 32, Drusy Lane, age 11, Lawson Lane, age 7, Robert Lane, age 4 and Sarah Lane, age 1. David reported owning real estate worth $150 and personal property worth $125.3

Apparently both David and Mary (Earle) Lane died between 1860 and 1870, as their children were living in other families in the 1870 Census. It's possible that David died in the Civil War, but I've found no evidence of military service to date.4
