Despite the fact that the 1930 Census indicates that Earl was born in 1918, he does not appear in the 1920 Census with his parents.⁹ In 1925 Addie Samuel Yelton was the ruling elder of a newly created Presbyterian church in Phinizy, Georgia.¹⁰ He died on 8 August 1928 in Rutherford Hospital, Rutherfordton, Rutherford County, North Carolina, at age 46 The death certificate notes that he was a resident of Appling, Georgia.. He was survived by his wife, Myrtle Morrison.^4,11 Addie Samuel Yelton was buried at Centennial Methodist Church, Rutherford County, North Carolina.⁴

Yelton, age 23 registered to vote in Camp Creek Township pursuant to the "grandfather clause" and based on his descent from Richard Wells. He claimed descent from his maternal grandfather most likely because the identity of his paternal grandfather was unknown.¹¹ Egar L. Yelton, age 31 was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Rutherford County, North Carolina. The household also included his wife, Sary L. Yelton, age 32, his daughters, Lee I. Yelton, age 8, Imer Yelton, age 1 year and 11 months and Nanie M. Yelton, age 3 months, Charlie Vassie Yelton. Sarah has borne 3 children, all of whom are living.¹² Edgar survived the death of his wife, Sarah Lillie Dobbins, on 10 February 1918.² Edgar registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 in Columbia County, Georgia. In the space for nearest relative, the registration says "daughter" but no name is given.³ In 1920 Edgar Lee Yelton was the manager of a sawmill.¹³ He was listed as the head of a household in the 1920 Census of Columbia County, Georgia. The family included, his son, Jack Yelton, age 6, his daughters, Ila Yelton, age 18, Imer Yelton, age 11, Ethel L. Yelton, age 9 and Kate Yelton, age 7.¹⁴

      Alge is named in his(?) father's will, but does not appear with the family in any census. The 1910 Census states that Nancy Madora had borne 8 children, 6 of whom were living. This makes perfect sense if Alge is dead, but then why is he(?) listed in his father's will??
