     In the 1870 Census of Story County, Iowa Nancy is living in the household of William McMichael, her guardian. The household consists of William, his wife Ann, and Nancy; there are no other children. Nancy is using the McMichael surname, although papers related to her guardianship refer to her as Nancy Yelton as late as 1871.3 Maggie McMichael, age 19 is listed as adopted in the household of William McMichael, age 57 in the 1920 Census of Ames, Story County, Iowa .4 I do not believe that this is the Maggie McMichael who married A. J. Peddicord and appears with him in the 1900 census for Richland townshp, Story County, IA (sheet 4B). The age is off by 3 years, the place of birth is incorrect,and the parents' placees of birth are wrong. Also, the census seems to indicate that this family had moved to Iowa from Illinois rather recently.
