Dear Children,
I will drop you a few lines this afternoon just to let you know I am still on Terra Firma but I have suffered for a week or ten days from severe cold I got on a trip up to the farm in car about ten days ago. The weather was warmer and went without my overcoat I presume caused it. Have taken no medicine for it but think I shall take my usual remedy tonight via a rhubarb pill which is my usual remedy for a cold. I hope this finds you all well there. I guess you have quite a little winter there yet. Had letter from Roscoe few days ago enclosed a (postal)?) for some flowers for mamas grave and also a like one from Grace which I tended to before hearing from Grace. There as, I never forget the matter. I guess Richard is to graduate in a few days and I want to try and send a small check for him. Say Mame, I have a matter pending before the Patent Office, filing fee paid in which I have a matter calling for a conveyer for a car running on wires (5) two sets, five running eastward, five west and upon those wires I use a set of wheels, say 5 or 5 1/2 inches in diameter, a groove in each wheel, say 2 1/2 inches deep to hold the wheels on the wires. The wheels held firmly on the wires by a cross bar that curves down a little at each end so it can’t jump off the wires. These wheels will be for conveying an aluminum car, say twelve, fourteen or sixteen feet long over the wires for United States mail, Express or perishables such as fruits, fresh meats, butter, eggs etc. eastward and also similar sets south to north for early vegetables, fish or oysters or on east to west for Maryland oysters or also mail express between north and south. All in all it calls for say 3 to 5 for both or each of the systems for the completed systems. You might wonder as to how I will convey these cars (they are aluminum) which as you know is a light metal but very strong hence its utility advantage is especially favorable for the mail and express purposes I intend it especially for...but it could carry say six or eight passengers whom might want speedy conveyance over these lines. The car would be sharp pointed, the motorman sitting in front end. The air would not affect him perceptably as he would have a glass or Izenglass protecter to brake the force of the wind or air from his face. I figure the speed safety at 200 or 225 miles an hour being up in the air upon either steel or cypress or as I recall, chestnut poles like I used on my work on the Maysville-Lexington line in 1871 when I built that lin in Kentucky before I went westward and thence to the south on the M & O Railway as Chief Disptacher. Let me know what you think of this. I have if filed before Patent Office, filing fee paid. This is confidential. You see Mame, two sets of poles, say 16 or 17 feet apart will take care of both the east and west set of wires on which the aluminum car will carry the mail and express or perishable properties such as fresh meats, fish and oysters and other rapid transit properties. But its especially a mail and express utility matter as you can conceive. Well with love to all of you. Let me have your ideas as to this important matter. Its 1264 miles as I recall the distance, Kansas City to New York, my first proposed line but I hope for 3 or 4 double sets of wire conveyers between both east and west and north and south. I feel that I can command the capital all right.
Yours affectionately,
Father.11

Yours affectionately,
Father.11
