Daily Republican, DeCatur, Ill March 19, 1896 "....the village was given the name of Waynesville by Mr. George Isham, one of the oldest settlers, in honor of Gen. Anthony Wayne of whose exploits and generalship Mr. Isham was a great admirer. As early as 1835 the first school house was built by Mr. Isham, the first teacher being Mr. Linus Graves. "
