Notes:
  • "German Lutheran" refers to Zion Lutheran [current address Holliday & Lexington, City Hall Plaza]
  • First Reformed - It appears to be listed, "German", under Presbyterian churches.
  • Presbyterian "Dutch" - The location and the pastor lead me to believe that this is actually Old Otterbein.
  • Second Presbyterian - "G. York" was later renamed as an extension of Baltimore Street.

    * When copying the microfiche I missed the page that included the Catholic Churches for 1845.

    Notes:
    • Zion Lutheran is listed as "Zion's German church".

    • Old Otterbein is not listed by name in the 1845 directory.   In 2003 I received an email from BALTGEN list member, Phil Stackhouse, which may help shed some light on this:
"See your listing for "United Bretheran of Christ" at Conway, E. of Sharp St. - that's it. Also, keep in mind that during this era and well into the 20th Century more than one German denomination shared the same church building. So it's quite likely that the Lutherans and the Reformed congregations were at the same location; so too the Evangelical Reformed and the United Brethren congregations at Conway St."   Thanks for sharing, Phil :)

    • In the 1845 directory above First Reformed Church is again listed under Presbyterian. The 1835-36 city directory, however, lists "German Reformed" with the Lutheran churches as follows:
English Lutheran, Lexington, near Howard Street.
German Lutheran, North Gay, near the Shot Tower. [Zion Lutheran]
German Reformed, Second, near South street. [First Reformed Church]
German Evangelical Reformed, Conway, between Sharp and Hanover streets. [Old Otterbein ?]
