HOW TO SUBSCRIBE / UNSUBSCRIBE:
To Subscribe - Use the "request" addresses listed below to subscribe. Leave the SUBJECT field EMPTY. and in the body of the message type one word: "subscribe" (without the quotation marks).
You have the option to receive messages in the MAIL MODE "L" or DIGEST MODE "D". List mode delivers messages individually as they are received by the server. Digest mode sends about one email a day and includes all postings for that day. List mode is more efficient for deleting and saving individual messages as they arrive; however, some prefer to receive just one email a day, which includes the multiple messages. It is very simple to switch to the DIGEST MODE. Use the above email addresses and change the "L" to a "D". The instructions you receive upon subscribing will also tell you how to go about the switch if you decide at a later date you would prefer the DIGEST mode.
To Unsubscribe - To be removed from the mail list, send your request to the same address to which you subscribed (see above). Follow the same instructions including one word in the body of the message: "unsubscribe" (no quotation marks).
Welcome! - After subscribing to the mail list you will receive an acknowledgment message from the List Owner. We suggest that you save this message for future reference. We invite all list members to enjoy themselves while hopefully making useful contacts and/or learning about resources available online and off. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the List Owner.

Courtesy - Occasionally people may type something that offends another list member It happens on just about every list at one time or another. This can sometimes be avoided if we think about "how" we phrase something before we post it. If you disagree with a list member, please post to them directly, or just delete their message altogether. Please do NOT involve the entire list, as this takes time away from the main reason we are here: genealogy :) If a problem persists, please contact the List Owner.
Mary Ann Kaylor passed along the following from the GEN-HUMOR mail list. Though humorous indeed, it also contains some very good advice regarding email:
